Bertrand Russell (1912) The Value of Philosophy and Brie Gertler Essay
Bertrand Russell (1912) The Value of Philosophy and Brie Gertler (2008) In Defense of Mind-Body Dualism - Essay Example Thinking major inquiries on the significance of life, human instinct, the universe, and so forth don't have any business esteem. In any case, a real existence lived without such philosophical hypothesis is very restricted and oppressed. Theory encourages us to widen our scholarly and enthusiastic skylines by oppressing our personal responsibility. It develops in us to concentrate on the non-Self, which frees us from singular unimportant concerns and veers our awareness toward greater inquiries on the human condition. At the end of the day, whenever particular teaches in science are engrossed with the ââ¬Ëhowââ¬â¢ question, theory is worried about the ââ¬Ëwhyââ¬â¢ question. As Russell suitably terms it, theory causes us to move past the ââ¬Ëhere and nowââ¬â¢. In doing as such, it makes us separate from the specific conditions of history and culture, subsequently encountering an all inclusive method of presence. Vulnerability is an essential element of reasoning, where different answers are proposed for some random inquiry. It is this component of vulnerability that recognizes theory from other logical orders. Yet, rather than causing equivocalness, the open-finished theories really improve our creative mind and recognize novel arrangements. As the magisterium of our brain is extended we become more quiet and increasingly secure. In contrast to the protective and on edge conduct of the unenlightened individual, the one knowledgeable with theory can haggle a wide range of possibilities in existence without any difficulty. I thoroughly concur with Russellââ¬â¢s appraisal of the estimation of reasoning. I emphatically accept that way of thinking ought to be moved into standard scholarly community, away from its recognition as a recondite interest. Today, pretty much every serious issue in the public arena is caused because of an unenlightened populace. With training progressively turning out to be aptitude situated or professional, ages of grown-ups move on from school without social awareness. Contemplating reasoning mitigates this marvel by inciting us with legitimate inquiries. Furthermore, in

Winters Bone Character Analysis - Literature Essay Samples
Daniel Woodrell creates a protagonist in his novel, Winterââ¬â¢s Bone, who is prideful, resilient and would do anything to preserve her own kin and blood. Woodrell also allows the reader to see her weaknesses, making identification with her character easily done. Ree Dolly faces challenges at a young age that most children her age could never endure. Her father, Jessup Dolly, disappears and leaves her as the head of the household to take care of two younger brothers, Harold and Sonny, and a mother who is mentally absent, and she eventually learns that her family will lose their home if her father does not return. Ree sets out on an adventure to find her father, and on her journey, she exhibits qualities, such as stubbornness, bravery, pride and independence, that inspire the reader to long for her success. Once the circumstances of her situation unravel, Ree is a character who a reader will instantly want to pity and admire at the same time. She is a sixteen-year-old girl who is immediately forced into adulthood by taking charge of an abandoned family of four. Ree has dreams to leave the world she was born into and save herself, but throughout the novel she grows into a character who would sacrifice anything for her family, even if leaving them behind would shed her of the burdens they bring. At the end of her journey, Ree has a conversation with her younger brother where she affirms that she would never leave them on their own: ââ¬Å"Harold said, ââ¬ËDoes this mean youââ¬â¢re leavinââ¬â¢?â⬠ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢I ainââ¬â¢t leavinââ¬â¢ you boys. Why do you think that?ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢We heard you once, talkinââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëbout the army and places we wouldnââ¬â¢t be. Are you wantinââ¬â¢ to leave us?ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢Naw. Iââ¬â¢d get l ost without the weight of you two on my backââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Woodrell 193). Although the situation is resolved and her family does not face the threat of their house being taken away, Reeââ¬â¢s loyalty and bonds with her family keep her from packing up and leaving them behind. Jessup puts their family home and land up for bond, and leaves Ree, who is only a child, to clean up his mess. Ree handles her situation with strength and resilience, while also staying loyal to her family. She embarks her journey, despite her fears, by traveling to the homes of hostile and intimidating family members who surprisingly lead her to her father after much perseverance. ââ¬Å"Sheââ¬â¢d start with Uncle Teardrop, though Uncle teardrop scared herâ⬠(Woodrell 20). Ree is part of a community of crank cooks and dealers who are difficult to reason with, and resort to violence and hostility before ever exposing secrets or the whereabouts of someone in their corner. Uncle Teardrop warns Ree abo ut searching for her father when he says to never ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢go down around Hawkfall askinââ¬â¢ them people shit about stuff they ainââ¬â¢t offerinââ¬â¢ to talk aboutââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Woodrell 25). Despite Teardropââ¬â¢s warnings, Reeââ¬â¢s stubbornness pushes her to continue on her journey. She bravely sets out to Hawkfall, alone, entering territory that no other would ever set foot in. While her motivation to put herself in dangerous situations is admirable and brave, it is also a weakness she exhibits. Ree finds herself at the door of Thump Milton begging for answers about her father. Thump Miltonââ¬â¢s wife warns her to never return, but Ree reappears later in the novel desperate to find her father and save her family home. When Thump Miltonââ¬â¢s wife refuses to help her, the strong ties she has to her family and blood are evident when she says ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ ¦I am Dolly! Some of our blood at least is the same. Thatââ¬â¢s sââ¬â¢posed to mean somethinââ¬â¢- ainââ¬â¢t that what is always said?ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Woodrell 59). Her reappearance to Hawkfall led to major consequences that she should have seen coming her way after the warnings that her family had given her. She risks her life by putting herself in harmful situations while searching for the truth and suffers a beating that leaves her helpless and unable to move off of the ground. Another weakness that Ree exhibits is her pride. Ree lives in an impoverished community where necessities such as food and money are hard for her to obtain, and she must find ways to fend for her family without appearing weak to those around her. In the beginning of the novel, Reeââ¬â¢s younger brothers complain about their lack of food and their hope that someone will bring supply food for their home. After listening to their discontent, she grabs her brother by the ear and tells him to ââ¬Å"never ask for what ought to be offeredâ⬠(Woodrell 5). Reeââ¬â¢s father not on ly placed her house up for bond, but he also placed the timber on his land up for it too. Her pride comes into play when her uncle advises her to ââ¬Å"sell off that Bromont Timber now while [she] can,â⬠and she refuses to do so, even though it could support her family if her home is repossessed by the government due to her fatherââ¬â¢s inability to appear in court (Woodrell 112). She refuses to tear apart a home that has been in her family for generations. Although the author depicts Ree as a brave and resilient character throughout the novel, he also offers instances of weakness to allow the reader to identify with her more realistically, and to remind the readers that she is only a child. Ree appears to be strong and able to conquer anything that life throws at her, but she is only human and all humans have their own weaknesses. Ree takes care of her family as the head of her household, which is a job normally carried out by a mother or a father, two people whom Ree lacks in her life. There is an occasion in the novel when Ree takes her mother out to a field and falls to her knees and says, ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢ Mom, Iââ¬â¢m goinââ¬â¢ to need you to help. Thereââ¬â¢s things happeninââ¬â¢ that I donââ¬â¢t know what to do aboutââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Woodrell 118). Throughout the novel, it is easy to forget that Ree is only a child who is living in a world where she must act as an adult and fend for herself. This occasion allows the reader to remember the circumstances of her situation, and relate to her moment of weakness, because no one can face everything on their own. At the end of the novel, Thump Miltonââ¬â¢s wife and her sisters appear at Reeââ¬â¢s doorstep offering to bring her to fatherââ¬â¢s body. She is hesitant to trust them after the beating they gave her, but she realizes that she has nothing left to lose and submits to their offer. The women drive her to a remote location where she must pull her fatherââ¬â¢s body out of a frozen lake. The women ask her to cut off her fatherââ¬â¢s hands in order to prove his death to the authorities to save her home, but she refuses. ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢Hereââ¬â¢s the chain saw.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢What?â⬠ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢How else you goinââ¬â¢ to get his hands? Theyââ¬â¢ll know its him by his hands.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ ââ¬Å"Oh, no, shit. Noââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Woodrell 185). The author writes this scene to remind the readers that Ree is not as fearless as she depicts herself to be, and that she is only a child. Ree Dolly is a character that is easy to like and admire because of her strengths and weaknesses combined. The author puts Ree in positions where her admirable qualities will shine through the darkness that she is enduring. Throughout her journey to save her family and find her father, she exhibits qualities that no other sixteen year old child could ever display. She faces challenges that show her bravery and independence, while never failing to uphold her loyalty to her family. Her weaknesses and strengths both shape her into a relatable character, proving that a person can be incredibly brave and fearless, while also being scared of what the future may bring.

Corporate Social Responsibility And Csr - 8791 Words
Abstract Corporate social responsibility (CSR) draws more and more attentions from stakeholders, especially in the rapidly growing Chinese market. Most of the previous study regarding CSR and customer related outcomes are based on the social exchange theory, while the potential effect of customer company identification (C-C identification) has been ignored. Recently, the important effect of C-C identification on CSR has been conceptually and empirically validated by some studies. The study incorporates the C-C identification, trust, satisfaction as mediator between CSR and customersââ¬â¢ purchase intention, expanding previous studies by combining the social identity perspective with social exchange theory. A model was constructed based onâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The main motivation behind CSR is the potential benefits that firms can derive when they are perceived by their stakeholders as a socially responsible organization (Tian, Wang, and Yang, 2011). In other words, the benefits of a certain company will be harmed if customers perceived its irresponsible activities. As an example, after the exposure of its emission scandal, Volkswagen, which was viewed as a responsible beforehand, encountered a 37% stocks price slump within two days. However, good CSR activities can still cause positive influence on Volkswagenââ¬â¢s reputations to minimize the lost in its reputation. After the scandal, Volkswagen said that it would recall around 8.5 million diesel-engine cars in the European Union and it would give $1,000 to some owners of diesel VW and Audi cars that do not achieve the emissions limits in the United States. As a positive results of the mentioned CSR actions, suggested by CN BC on October 20th 2015, over two thirds of German consumers, out of the 1,000 German adults questioned in an online survey, believe that the embattled German carmaker still builds outstanding cars and that the emissions scandal was overdone. Motivated by the importance of CSR in practice, many researchers have investigated the potential effect that CSR has on customer behavior and response, such as customer satisfaction (e.g., Luo and Bhattacharya,

Marketing and Advertising Law for Trade Act -myassignmenthelp
Question: Discuss about theMarketing and Advertising Law for Trade Marks Act. Answer: The issue here is to verify if the manufacturer could claim the right ownership of the trademark Lazeabouta, Secondly manufacturer must prove that consumers actually confused between the two brands, third that the mark Lazeabout were similar in both by visual and by sound, also the manufacturer must show that the importer was offering the same services as them and that the targeted customers were also similar.[1] Rule: Under the Trade Marks Act 1995 article 17, the manufacturer is required to register the trademark which will identify them solely as the brand owners. Application: The court cannot grant the trademark right to the manufacturer since it was not registered by them,[2] but based on other bylaws the importer would be found guilty of infringement, but the court will have to consider the other factors mentioned above. Therefore the allegations of the manufacturer can be proven under the trademark law. Issue: whether an impression was created by one business to mean that their product and services are one and the same with the other under passing off. Rule; Passing off under intellectual property law section 120 means misinterpretation by a business showing that their products are one and the same with another. Application: The appellants argument cannot stand in court since the two businesses were different, the defendants business dealt with garbage collection while the latter was associated with clothing and toys hence the consumers could not confuse between the two. Conclusion: It is clear that the defendants intention was not to breach the law since no impression was created considering the names were also differentiated with one being Wombles Ltd and the other Wombles skips skips here suggesting the nature of the business. Section 18 of the Australian consumer law discourages companies from deceiving customers by giving false information about their product or services. The appellant should prove if this was the intention of the defendant.[3] Remedies The German Company Can Take Against The Australian Company Issue: The German company should prove that the mark used by United Breweries was actually similar to theirs and that they owned the trade mark as it was registered by them. Also the company should prove intentional behavior of the other company to mislead the consumers into believing that the products of the two companies were one and the same by using the brand which is similar by sound and also by indicating that the beer was German made when actually it is not.[4] Rule; Passing off is a law that prohibits businesses from false misinterpretation of goods and services under the 1995 Act. Application; This breaking of law by the Australian manufacturer gives the Germans a good basis for taking action and moving to the courts where a court ruling can be granted[5] and if the plaintiff succeeds in proving their case the defendant will be required to pay for damages caused. Issue: The United breweries was wrong since they claimed to be associated with the German company by using similar bottle to that used by the Germans and also by using label which had German flag implying that their beer was from Germany which was a lie. They also lied about the contents of their beer when in fact they were using one of their old beer only under a different name. Rules: Under ACL the companies are not supposed to use false information regarding the product when marketing. Application: The German company can use these points to take action against the united breweries under the Trade Practices Act section 120(1) because they breached the law in more than one way, and request to be compensated for the damages caused or for the company to be given public warning or seek a court hearing or file for trademark infringement.[6] Bibliography Dunn, Heather.
